Asking whether Vivienne Westwood can do any wrong would be a little redundant — the answer is generally going to be no. For her spring summer 2011 collection, Westwood presented a strong set of well made staples, with a few grand flourishes thrown in for good measure.
There is, for example, the white cocktail dress with the exaggerated collar, or the short, one-shouldered tunic model Daisy Lowe trotted out in. Jacquetta Wheeler modeled a flawless dark blue sequined cocktail dress with a sweetheart neckline. (There weren’t just stars on the runway, though. Pamela Anderson and Danny Cipriani among other boldface names, sat front row at the show.)
Westwood can do extreme just as well as she can do simple, and she showed that with dresses covered in cascading, ruffled detail, and by turning prints most designers would either use sparingly or apply to simple shapes into full outfits.
