This season, Vivienne Westwood Anglomania’s Autumn-Winter 2010/2011 collection not only takes inspiration from the silhouette and prints of Yabusame costumes but also the attitude and characterisations behind it.
Thick brush-strokes have been applied against a colour blocked background to create a modern calligraphy pattern. Colour blocking has also been used to create tribal inspired prints. These are matched with Westwood’s signature checks, tartans and chunky stripes.
Pieces such as the harem trousers and winged geometric coats and tunics have mirrored the silhouette of the Yabusame dress. Shoulders have also been made squarer too to give a stronger look. The emphasis on the collection is on layering and mismatching – putting together various prints, colours and textures to create a modern outfit. Available at YOUR!
